Sendra Park and Resort: FIELD VENUE OF DAY 3 OF IRCT ARM 2014

SENDRA PARK & RESORT BY THE CLASSIC: FIELD VENUE OF DAY 3

The off main venue setting of the final day’s morning programme of the IRCT Asia Regional Meeting 2014 is on the Loktak Lake at Sendra. The islet of Sendra on the Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake of the region located about 1000 metres above the sea level, is closely associated with the legends and history of Manipur, and especially of the erstwhile principality of Moirang. It is about 30 km away from Imphal. Nestled in the hills of Sendra the cottages provide comfortable accommodation that overlooks a gorgeous vista of the Loktak Lake. As the resort is being surrounded by the lake, a visual treat of the picturesque landscape of the boathouses and fishermen at work throwing their nets in the water can be seen. Besides sunrise and sunset at the resort is one of the major attractions. It is a popular place to take a break from the humdrum of city life.

Yet, behind this vista of tranquility hides the ugly truth of torture, death and destruction of lives, properties and livelihoods. Delegates will have a capacity building session at Sendra, after which they will meet and interact with a group of torture victims, members of the All Loktak Lake Areas Fishermen’s Union Manipur (ALLAFUM), in their own setting on Thanga Island.
