Coalition on Environment and Natural Resources

Coalition on Environment and Natural Resources (CENRs) was set up in November 2012 to focus on development issues that have direct and indirect impacts on the indigenous people’s rights, their livelihood and on its environment/natural resources with following organisations forming the coalition:

  1. Rural Women Upliftment Society (RWUS)
  2. Center for Organisation Research and Education (CORE)
  3. Sinlung Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Organisation (SIPHRO)
  4. Evangelical Assembly Church (EAC)
  5. Reformed Presbyterian Church (RPC)
  6. Peoples’ Endeavour for Social Change (PESCH)

CENRs have the following objectives:

  1. Protection
  2. Promotion and Management of Natural Resources
  3. Indigenous Peoples Rights

Area of focus:

  • Indigenous Dimension
  • Environment / Natural Resources:
  • Livelihood Dimension
  • Gender

Strategy of the coalition:

  • Capacity Building (community, coalition members, other stakeholders )
  • Lobby and Advocacy
  • Networking and Alliance Building
  • Information gathering, Research and Documentation
  • Strengthening Network/extensions: The coalition decided to include lawyers, local experts on extractives, academicians, researchers, media and lobbyist in the coalition.
